In 2024, mercury from illegal mining contaminated seven rivers in Brazil’s Yanomami territory, poisoning 94% of the community. Lab-based testing is inaccessible, making real-time detection nearly impossible.

We created the Noama Paddle, painted with nanoparticle ink that shifts from red to purple when exposed to mercury, helping the Yanomami detect unsafe water, protect their health, and expose environmental crimes.
